Support after crime: information for victims and families
Shield & Rebuild provides free public information about practical safety, digital safety and recovery after crime. You can use these resources at your own pace without sharing personal details. Direct assistance is currently considered only for eligible referred clients in Queensland.
Safety first: If there is immediate danger, someone is injured or an incident is in progress, call 000. Shield & Rebuild is not an emergency response service.
Start where you are
Choose one manageable next step
After crime, it can be helpful to focus on one practical step at a time. Depending on the situation, that may mean seeking emergency help, making a report, checking an entry point or online account, speaking with someone you trust, or taking a break from decisions that can wait.
You can use the public information below without deciding anything immediately or sharing personal details through this website.
Information and current capability
Public information and current practical-safety capability
Shield & Rebuild is an Australian charity that provides free public safety and recovery information for people affected by crime and their families. These resources may be useful across Australia and can be read without making a referral.
Shield & Rebuild's current specialist capability is electronic security and security upgrades, including CCTV, alarm and access-control systems and related security solutions.
Direct assistance is currently considered only for eligible referred clients in Queensland. Each request is considered individually and depends on the person's circumstances, eligibility, individual need, provider availability and available funding.

Talk with someone already supporting you
Shield & Rebuild does not accept self-referrals.
If you already have a caseworker, police officer or liaison supporting you, or you are receiving support from a recognised charity or government service, you can ask them whether a referral to Shield & Rebuild may be appropriate.
An authorised representative of a recognised charity, police service or government body may consider making a referral for an eligible client in Queensland. A referral allows Shield & Rebuild to consider whether an appropriate practical safety pathway may be available. It does not guarantee assistance, funding, a service or a particular outcome.
Understanding boundaries
Some pathways may involve external providers
Electrical work, building or physical-security work, counselling and psychological services are not directly provided by Shield & Rebuild. Where a broader pathway may be appropriate, support would require appropriately qualified external providers and would depend on the individual assessment, provider availability and available funding.
This information does not mean that a particular service or provider will be available. The Services page explains current capability, public information and developing support pathways in more detail.
