Shield & Rebuild is an Australian charity founded to help bridge the practical gap that can remain after serious crime, while recognising that every request must be assessed with care.
Why we were founded
Shield & Rebuild grew from seeing people affected by crime wanting to improve the security of their homes but struggling to afford the work, particularly during cost-of-living pressures. Founder Travis Cassuscelli saw clients facing difficult choices between security improvements and essential household costs such as groceries and electricity.
The charity was created to help eligible victims rebuild safety, dignity and control through practical support that responds to individual circumstances. Assistance is never assumed or guaranteed. Each request is considered individually.
Current capability
Shield & Rebuild's current specialist capability is electronic security and security upgrades, including CCTV, alarm and access-control systems and related security solutions.
Direct assistance is currently considered for eligible referred clients in Queensland. Depending on the individual assessment, Shield & Rebuild may arrange and/or fund appropriate electronic-security or security-upgrade support. Any assistance depends on eligibility, individual need, provider availability and available funding.
Shield & Rebuild is building relationships with appropriately qualified external providers for broader assistance as organisational capacity, provider relationships and funding grow. This includes potential external providers for electrical and lighting work, building and physical-security work such as security doors, and counselling or psychological support.
Where broader support is required, appropriately qualified external providers may be engaged. Shield & Rebuild does not state that it directly provides electrical work, building work, counselling or psychological services.
Counselling and psychological services are not directly provided by Shield & Rebuild. For eligible referred clients in Queensland, the charity may seek to facilitate or fund this support through appropriately qualified external providers, subject to assessment, provider availability and available funding.
Shield & Rebuild does not accept self-referrals. Client referrals may be made only by authorised representatives of recognised charities, police and government bodies. Every request is assessed individually. A referral does not guarantee assistance, funding, a service or a particular outcome.
Shield & Rebuild intends to expand into other Australian states and territories as appropriately qualified provider relationships, funding and organisational capacity grow. Until then, people outside Queensland can use the charity's public safety resources and seek relevant local services for their circumstances.

Shield & Rebuild also seeks to give victims of crime a stronger voice by raising awareness of practical gaps in victim support and engaging constructively, and on a non-partisan basis, with governments, elected representatives and other organisations about potential improvements to victim-support systems, laws and policies.
